Online-petition site Change.org was hacked over the weekend, although the breach did not appear to target specific causes.

Discussion:  On Friday, online petition site, Change.org, was hacked.  Reports say that there were only “cosmetic” changes made, and that no personal information was compromised.  A spokesman for the company also noted that none of the 12 petitions that were targeted had its number of signatures affected.  It appears at this time that the petitions that were targeted were chosen because they were featured on the web site, not because of the content of the petitions.

Discussion Questions:

  • Why would hackers choose to hack Change.org if no data was compromised, and no petitions’ signatures were altered?
  • How does Change.org work?
