More than half of U.S. seniors now use the web, but those who don't are at an increasing disadvantage.

Discussion:  Research shows that more than half of all senior citizens use the internet, but that 2/3 still either don’t use the Web every day, or not at all.  This digital divide is a big issue for senior citizens as more and more services go digital.  The internet has become an important tool for receiving news, communication, and accessing services, all of which the senior community may be missing out on.  In today’s mobile society, those who do not have access to the web will grow increasingly disadvantaged and secluded.

Discussion Questions:

  • If more senior citizens continue to avoid the Web, what are some of the consequences?
  • Why does limited or no access to the Web cause such a significant disadvantage?
